The nation's top-ranked high school quarterback in the class of 2026 grew up in Spring, and he's already on campus learning the University of Houston playbook.
Keisean Henderson, a 6-foot-5, 195-pound dual-threat quarterback who attended Legacy the School of Sport Sciences, enrolled early at Houston in January after committing to the Cougars on May 27, 2024. He turned down offers from Georgia, Alabama and Florida State to stay home.
Henderson is the highest-rated recruit in UH football history, according to Underdog Dynasty. 247Sports ranked him the No. 1 overall prospect nationally, No. 1 at quarterback and No. 1 in Texas. ESPN placed him fourth overall.
He won't start right away. Head coach Willie Fritz said at Big 12 Media Days in July that he's never had two 5-star quarterbacks at any program he's coached, praising both players' unselfishness. Fifth-year senior Conner Weigman, who led Houston to a 10-3 record and a No. 22 national ranking in 2025, holds the starting job.
Henderson has spent the offseason scheduling extra film sessions with quarterbacks coach Shawn Bell and leaning on a familiar face: Michael Bishop, his head coach at Legacy for all four years of high school. Bishop, a 1998 Heisman Trophy runner-up at Kansas State and 2023 College Football Hall of Fame inductee, joined Houston's staff as an offensive assistant in December 2025.
During Houston's spring showcase in April, Henderson started at quarterback in front of more than 1,000 fans and threw a touchdown pass. Weigman, a former 5-star recruit himself who transferred from Texas A&M, said the freshman's ceiling is obvious.
"The talent's off the charts," Weigman said in an Aug. 10 interview with Underdog Dynasty. "When things start slowing down, he's gonna be a dude."
As a junior at Legacy in 2024, Henderson completed 173 of 263 passes for 2,689 yards and 25 touchdowns while adding 347 rushing yards and seven rushing scores. He capped his prep career as MVP of the Navy All-American Bowl, completing 3 of 5 passes for 146 yards, including a 91-yard touchdown.
Henderson graduated 10th in his class while participating in Houston's practices during his final semester.
The timing aligns with a busy stretch for Spring-area football. Spring High opens its 2026 season Sept. 4 under new head coach KaRon Coleman, who takes over a program seeking to end a four-year losing streak after going 71-23 from 2014 to 2021, according to the Houston Chronicle. Klein Collins, chasing a 13th consecutive playoff appearance under head coach Adrian Mitchell, also begins its season in early September.
Houston kicks off the following day, Sept. 5, against Oregon State at TDECU Stadium.
