The Leslie's pool supply store at 6941 Spring Stuebner Road is shutting down as the national chain works through Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
Leslie's filed for bankruptcy protection on Wednesday, Sept. 30, in Houston federal court, the Houston Chronicle reported. The Spring location is one of eight Houston-area stores on the closure list and part of a 76-store "Wave 1" group the company said it expected to vacate within about 14 days of filing.
Under that timeline, the Spring Stuebner Road store could close by around Oct. 14 or may have already shut its doors. The closure means Spring pool owners will lose a nearby option for chemicals, equipment repairs and free water testing.
Why the company filed
The Phoenix-based retailer, founded in 1963, grew to more than 1,000 stores across 37 states. But demand cooled after a pandemic-era boom in pool spending, and the company said inflation, higher interest rates, weaker consumer spending and competition from big-box and online retailers squeezed the business.
Leslie's had already closed about 80 underperforming stores and one distribution center by January 2026, according to Chron reporting on court filings.
Chief Financial Officer Jeff White wrote in a court filing: "High interest rates, high inflation, uncertain tariffs, declining consumer purchasing power, and consumer confidence have limited the demand for swimming pool and spa related products and services."
What the restructuring looks like
Leslie's reached an agreement with lenders to cut about $685 million in debt, roughly 90 percent of its outstanding debt. The deal includes $90 million in debtor-in-possession financing and a $60 million equity package. The company also asked the court to approve a $225 million credit facility to keep operations running.
Existing lenders are expected to hold majority ownership once Leslie's emerges from Chapter 11. The company targets early 2027.
What Spring customers should know
Leslie's said its remaining stores, website and mobile app will continue operating during the bankruptcy process. Gift cards will still be honored. Pool Perks loyalty rewards, free in-store water testing and equipment repair services also continue at open locations, according to a company statement.
The seven other Houston-area stores closing are on FM 1960 Road West, Highway 6 South in Mission Bend, Fairmont Parkway in Pasadena and Highway 6 North in Copperwood Village. The list also includes stores on Clay Road near Katy, Highway 6 in Missouri City and West Lake Houston Parkway in Humble.
