Harris County Constable Mark Herman's office is putting extra deputies on north Harris County roads for a week-long enforcement push starting Monday, targeting aggressive driving, speeding, road rage, impaired driving and distracted driving.
The initiative, announced on the office's Facebook page, covers communities throughout Precinct 4, which includes Spring, Klein, Cypress, The Woodlands and other unincorporated areas spanning 520 square miles. The office has more than 670 sworn deputies.
Precinct 4 did not specify which roads or intersections would see increased patrols, or how many deputies would be deployed.
Follows statewide speed campaign
The crackdown comes days after Precinct 4 wrapped its participation in TxDOT's statewide "Operation Slow Down" speeding campaign, which ran July 18 through Aug. 2. On Aug. 5, the office said on X that deputies were "still out there enforcing speed limits and writing speeding tickets" after that campaign ended.
Deputies were already ramping up enforcement over the weekend. On Sunday, Aug. 9, Precinct 4 conducted a targeted traffic initiative in the Memorial Hills subdivision, focusing on the 1800–2200 blocks of Briarcreek Boulevard, as we reported Monday.
The timing also coincides with back-to-school season. On Aug. 5, Constable Herman announced a partnership with Spring ISD, Klein ISD, Cy-Fair ISD, Humble ISD, Tomball ISD and Aldine ISD to deploy hundreds of deputies near campuses for the new school year, according to CW39. The office also joined the MADD Southeast Texas Advisory Council in late July, signaling a broader focus on impaired-driving enforcement.
Road deaths outpace homicides
The enforcement push arrives amid troubling regional traffic fatality numbers. TxDOT reported 291 roadway deaths in Houston during 2025, more than the 268 homicides HPD recorded that year, Houston Public Media reported. In the first three months of 2026, 67 people died on Houston roads compared with 49 murders.
Those figures cover the City of Houston, not Precinct 4 specifically.
On Friday, Aug. 7, Precinct 4 deputies investigated a road rage shooting near Cypress Mill Place Boulevard and the Northwest Freeway. No injuries were reported, and two men were detained, according to KPRC.
